Where in the World are Gemma and Eileen?

The Broadway In Chicago team went underground at the end of the summer, working hard to bring THE BOOK OF MORMON to Chicago!

In the fall they’re usually seen at every event in the city – but they’ve gone missing. Rumor has it that they’re buried under group sales orders for THE BOOK OF MORMON.  Plus, there’s also the launch of an amazing new season to attend to – a new season which Time Out Chicago calls “edgier” than usual.

AMERICAN IDIOT: February 7 – 19, 2012

SOUTH PACIFIC: February 14 – 26, 2012

BRING IT ON: THE MUSICAL: March 6 – 25, 2012

FELA!: March 27 – April 8, 2012

JERSEY BOYS: April 5 – June 2, 2012

THE BOOK OF MORMON: Starting December 2012

What a Great Tony Celebration…

The Tony Awards on Sunday were just brilliant. Great performances, acceptance speeches… I laughed, I cried, I was proud to be a part of the Broadway Community–even if our part of this community requires them to pack up and put their shows in trucks to get to us!

The most exciting part of the evening was Chicago’s fifth Regional Tony Award Winner, the Lookingglass Theatre Company. Here’s a TV commercial we created to celebrate all of Chicago’s Regional Tony Award Winners. After all CHICAGO is the only city in the country to win five Regional Tony Awards.

Well, the big talk is THE BOOK OF MORMON. The day after the Tony Awards, I had several requests for tickets to THE BOOK OF MORMON. Really? Are they crazy? The show is completely selling out!  And then I had the series of phone calls from friends, business associates, and others that demanded to know – when is the show coming to Chicago? I replied to all – I Believe! I’ve also asked Joseph Smith – we will see if he delivers!

I understand that 500 people lined up at THE BOOK OF MORMON on Broadway yesterday (the first performance after the Tony Awards) to enter a lottery for 22 tickets for those lucky enough to be drawn. But Chicago was not to be outdone… people from all over took to the streets wanting to know WHERE AND WHEN (hopefully in Chicago soon) THEY WOULD GET TICKETS TO THE BOOK OF MORMON.

THE BOOK OF MORMON is more than a Tony Award Winner — IT’S A MOVEMENT!

Sunday Morning

There is nothing that makes me happier than waking up on a Sunday morning to find a great story about a Broadway Musical, especially a New Musical, on CBS Sunday MorningTHE BOOK OF MORMON was featured this past weekend; it was a great piece that showed not only that this show very funny, but that it’s one that has been expertly crafted in the rich tradition of the American Musical.

Make sure to watch it and let us know what you think!

A Broadway State of Mind

Broadway is hot this season with a lot of new shows. I have spent 12 of the past 14 days in New York with a team of people from Broadway In Chicago. Once a year we go to NY and meet with all the producers and presenters of Broadway across the country. We saw some amazing shows, many of which we hope will come to Chicago sooner rather than later, but we will let you know as they make their plans.

We met to discuss the current and upcoming productions of LOVE, LOSS, AND WHAT I WORE, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, MEMPHIS, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, WEST SIDE STORY, WORKING and PETER PAN. We were also lucky enough to see:

PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

SISTER ACT

WAR HORSE

THE BOOK OF MORMON

WONDERLAND

LOVE, LOSS & WHAT I WORE

HOW TO SUCCEED…

MEMPHIS

What are you hoping will come to Chicago?

Don’t forget to watch the Tony Awards on June 12 on CBS at 7 pm Central where the (record!) fifth Chicago Theatre will pick up a Regional Theatre Tony Award. Do you know which five theaters that have won?

In those two days between trips to NY, we attended the League of Chicago Theatres Gala where THE NEW COLONY received their 2011 Emerging Theatre Award.  Also saw the new Mayor inaugurated in Millennium Park.

There is no better place to be than CHICAGO!

Eileen
